Casting
Casting is projected to start in early November. Please check back here for announcements regarding the official casting period and role updates.
Casting Process
Cate and Barbara are still ironing out the official casting process. Presently, they hope to list brief character descriptions on this page. During the casting period, interested actors can email frantic.staff@gmail.com for an excerpt of the script for the specific character that they're interested in reading for. The initial reading will be offsite and digitally sent. Interested actors can email a video or audio recording of their reading to the Frantic Staff. It is encouraged that actors include past experience, a head shot, a statement of why they want to get involved, their gender pronouns, and their availability. Staff will contact actors after the casting call closes to offer a part, respectfully deny them a part, or ask for an additional in person reading. Consideration for leading roles will be required to do a second audition in person and will be required to act with others considered for partnering leading roles so we can get a good feel of chemistry.
Gender and Race Blind Casting
It is important to the creators of frantic that everyone has an equal opportunity for casting. For most characters, the race and gender of the actor is open to anyone. Further, body type, physical ability, etc will have no impact on casting (however, if you need special accommodations, please let us know so the set can be accessible). We will make the characters identities match the identity of the actor. For example, we may have placeholder pronouns in the script, these can be changed to match the gender identity of the actor. Further, we may also have placeholder ethnicity written in the script, for example, Trinidadian, however, if you're Puerto Rican, we'll alter the script to reflect that. We want the characters to be representative of the actors to add better authenticity and representation. The one requirement is that if you are auditioning for a queer character, that you be queer. Many of the supporting characters interact with the lead, Fran, as potential dates. We do not want straight people playing queer people when there are queer people capable of being cast in those roles.
Payment
Right now we are trying to secure funding so that we can compensate actors. To be fully transparent, we presently do not have the financial means to do that. Pending grant applications and sponsorship, there is the chance that these roles will not be compensated. Shall the proper support be secured, we will list the compensation rates.
